SVPS Proposed Layout

Starting the Blog

This is the first blog for the Swindon Village Primary School Project. The blog will follow the progress of this design and construction project from February 2011 when the design is being finalised till its completion on site in (hopefully) August 2012. We will be asking the School and members of the client, design and construction teams to contribute. But first some information on the project:

Background
Swindon Village Primary School is a 2 FE, 14 class primary school. The existing accommodation consists of one main block providing a hall, 11 classrooms, library, music, staff, administration, coats and toilet facilities. Three of the classrooms, ICT and resource area are currently located in temporary accommodation adjacent to the main school building. The School website is www.swindonvillage.gloucs.sch.uk

Proposal
The project proposal, promoted and funded by Gloucestershire County Council (GCC), Children and Young People's Directorate, is to provide a fully accessible extension to replace the existing temporary buildings and provide additional accommodation to meet current DFE (Department for Education) standards. The existing building will be refurbished and remodelled. The external play areas will be remodelled.

Design proposals have been prepared by GCC architect Bob Broadhead working closely with the School. Planning drawings will be posted as they are finalised.

GCC operate a construction framework and KIER MOSS, a Cheltenham based contractor, have been selected through a competitve process, that judged both cost and quality,  to develop and build the project.

I will introduce all the team members in a future blog.
